It is with profound sadness that the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Atlanta Georgia, announces the passing of Ambassador Kayode Laro on Friday, 11th August 2023, in Paris, France, after a protracted illness.
Ambassador Laro, a dedicated and accomplished diplomat, had until his death, served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to France with concurrent accreditation to Monaco. His enduring efforts significantly bolstered the bilateral ties between Nigeria and France, leaving an indelible mark on diplomatic relations.
His service encompassed a diverse array of roles, including his distinguished tenure as the Consul General at the Nigerian Consulate General in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Throughout his illustrious 35-year career within the Nigerian Foreign Service, Ambassador Laro displayed unwavering commitment and integrity. His impactful journey began in December 1983 and continued until December 2018, encompassing various roles both on the national and international stage. Notably, he distinguished himself in the field of multilateral diplomacy during his tenure at Nigeria’s Permanent Missions to the United Nations in New York and Geneva.
After retiring from active service, Ambassador Laro’s exceptional contributions continued to be acknowledged. In recognition of his invaluable dedication, he was appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to France in 2021, a testament to his enduring legacy within the realm of Foreign Affairs.
To honour the memory of the Late Ambassador Laro, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Atlanta, Georgia, will open a condolence register from the 15th -18th of August, 2023, from
11 :00 am to 3:00 pm.
